The Nigerian Army has successfully repelled an attempted attack by terrorists in Monguno, a town in Borno State.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the attempted infiltration occurred around 2:55 a.m. on Sunday.

The report stated that the terrorists attempted to breach Monguno through the Charlie 15 axis but were intercepted and engaged by troops of Sector 3, Operation Hadin Kai.

Sources revealed that the troops observed bloodstains along the route taken by the fleeing terrorists, suggesting that some of them sustained injuries during the encounter.

The army also recovered several items from the scene, including seven rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one PKT machine gun belt, an empty AK-47 rifle magazine, and an RPG bomb.

No casualties were reported among the troops, and there was no further contact with the attackers after their retreat.

Monguno, both a town and a local government area in Borno State, is a conflict-affected zone that has suffered greatly from the Boko Haram insurgency.

The town is regularly protected by troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), which includes military personnel from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, and Benin.
