Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has restated his strong commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting fundamental human rights, and ensuring that all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, can actively participate in the democratic process.

In Fubara’s Democracy Day address, delivered in Port Harcourt on Thursday, he emphasised his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property through effective security policies. He promised to continue protecting the state’s interests and to keep a government that prioritises inclusivity, transparency, and accountability.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s 26-year history of democratic governance, the governor urged political leaders to work together to create a society in which every individual is heard, supported in reaching their full potential, and encouraged to contribute to collective growth.

He highlighted the recent political turmoil in Rivers State, which disrupted democratic administration, and said it served as a reminder of how fragile democracy can be.

He emphasised that democracy must be actively safeguarded and cultivated in order to stay robust and relevant.

Fubara observed that the state’s democratic experience has included both wins and setbacks, each of which reinforces the importance of adhering to democratic norms.

He stated that his administration prioritised justice and open-mindedness, protected civil liberties, and established structures to assure effective oversight.

Furthermore, the government has deliberately promoted policies that promote inclusion, responsibility, and openness in order to ensure that democracy thrives for decades to come.

He stated that, despite setbacks in the state’s democratic journey, its people’s collective determination remains intact.

He urged citizens to approach this time with unity, courage, and a revitalised sense of purpose.

According to him, the future of Rivers State is dependent on the people’s ability to collaborate, create, and move forward with common goals.

He urged every person to play an active role in building a peaceful and united society based on healing, mutual understanding, and a common goal for long-term growth.

The governor also thanked previous leaders’ efforts and sacrifices, stating that they laid the groundwork for today’s democracy.

He stated that the current situation should be used to assess the people’s potential to build on their successes and change Rivers State into one that truly serves all of its population.

He went on to say that the difficulties encountered on the route to democracy should serve as a reminder to everyone of the necessity of honouring the memory of those who fought for it and being dedicated to the ideas that motivated them.

Fubara closed by encouraging Rivers residents to act with patriotism, loyalty, and responsibility. He regarded this moment as a call to action, requiring the state’s combined ingenuity, energy, and dedication to confront future obstacles.

Fubara expressed confidence in the state’s path, predicting that Rivers State will emerge stronger and more united.

He urged every person to help construct a society in which everyone has the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the state’s progress.
