Inter Milan moved a step closer to clinching the Serie A title with a convincing 3-1 home victory over relegation-threatened Cagliari.

The win extended their lead at the top of the table to six points and preserved manager Simone Inzaghi’s unbeaten record against the Sardinian side (W13, D3).

Following their midweek Champions League win over Bayern Munich, Inzaghi rotated his squad—one of those changes, Marko Arnautovic, made an immediate impact.

The Austrian striker opened the scoring inside 15 minutes, smashing the ball into the roof of the net after a chest-down assist from Carlos Augusto.

Arnautovic then turned provider, setting up Lautaro Martinez for Inter’s second goal. The Argentine striker calmly chipped Elia Caprile to notch his 20th goal of the season, moments after Yann Sommer had denied Roberto Piccoli at the other end.

Cagliari responded early in the second half, as Piccoli headed home from Tommaso Augello’s cross. However, Inter quickly reestablished their two-goal cushion when Yann Bisseck rose highest to power in a header from Federico Dimarco’s corner.

Despite Cagliari’s late push—highlighted by a goalline clearance from Stefan de Vrij to deny Piccoli again—Inter saw out the match with composure, recording their seventh win in eight league meetings with Cagliari.

While Inter strengthen their grip at the top, Cagliari remain six points above the drop zone, having lost four of their last six away fixtures.
