The Jigawa State Police Command has detained a 20-year-old woman, Rukayyah Amadu, for reportedly killing her co-wife, Asiyah Amadu, 30, by pouring boiling water on her.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the event occurred on February 24, 2025, at Buju village, Dutse LG, following a misunderstanding between the two ladies.

“Asiyah Amadu sustained severe burns and was rushed to Dutse General Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on March 4, 2025, at about 0900 hrs,” said the police statement.

The police announced that Rukayyah Amadu had been arrested and transferred to the Jigawa State Criminal Investigation Department Dutse for a investigation.

Adam further said, “During interrogation, Rukayyah confessed to the crime. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

In another incident, a newly married woman, Zainab Ibrahim, 22, was found unconscious in a pool of her blood at her matrimonial home in Warware Quarters, Hadejia LGA of the state.

“The Hadejia Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene, where they found a deep cut on her throat.

“Zainab was rushed to General Hospital Hadejia, where she was pronounced dead,” said Adam in the statement.

He stated that the police have begun an investigation and are working to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act.

Similarly, the police discovered a headless and mutilated corpse of a 14-year-old almajiri, Bashir Adamu, along Jikas-Dabaja village, Gwaram LGA, Jigawa State.

The corpse was identified by relatives, who reported that Bashir had been missing for two days.

“The police suspect that Bashir was killed by ritualists. An investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators,” the statement added.

The command has assured the public that it will thoroughly investigate the incidents and bring the perpetrators to book.
