A 200-level chemical engineering student from Federal University, Otuoke, reportedly drowned in Yenagoa’s Ekoli Creek over a N300 bet.
Our correspondent learned that the incident occurred on Sunday morning, but the corpse had yet to be discovered, and the name of the deceased was unknown.
Chronicle NG gathered from sources who were aware of the incident that the victim placed a wager with other people that he could swim across the river, but while swimming, he submerged and has not been seen since.
Narrating the incident, a source who is a student of the university, “Yesterday morning, a 200-level Chemical Engineering student made a bet with his coursemates to swim across the river.
“They all raised N300 each for the stake. As he was swimming, he dipped, and he has not been seen after that. He is still missing up till now.”
The Public Relations Officer of the university, Ms. Mercy Ekott, had yet to speak on the incident.
However, when contacted for comments, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Musa Mohammed, said he had yet to be briefed on the incident.
Mohammed said, “I have no information on the incident,” and promised to reach our correspondent the moment he had any update.
