Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, an All Progressives Congress chieftain in Osun State, has urged President Bola Tinubu to act quickly to ease the pain of Nigerians.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye noted the pain that many Nigerians are currently experiencing, emphasising the importance of the president acting fast and implementing policies that bring instant comfort.
Although the congressman expressed faith in Tinubu’s abilities to alleviate the masses’ suffering, he advised that speedier measures be taken, especially given the economic challenges caused by rising gasoline costs, which have made access to basics more difficult.
“There is no doubt that the President is doing everything possible to alleviate the suffering of the masses, but a faster approach must be considered.
“The President should ensure that every bureaucratic bottleneck delaying the swift implementation of policies that would benefit the masses is removed. The economic hardship the people are currently facing is becoming unbearable, and the President must act swiftly,” Oyintiloye said.
He was particularly concerned about Tinubu’s instruction to suspend customs charges and taxes on imported food items had not been implemented two months after it was announced.
The former congressman emphasised that because the project was part of a plan to tackle growing food prices, its execution should not be delayed.
Oyintiloye recounted that on August 7th, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, promised the public that the policy would be implemented the following week once the rules were finalised.
He urged those making the rules to complete the process as soon as possible, expressing hope that the plan, if implemented, will cut food prices without harming local production.
He also urged Nigerians to continue supporting the President, stressing that while some of his measures may appear difficult in the short term, they will provide significant rewards in the long run.
