‘Most NIPOST staff are thieves,’ Nigerians lament over missing properties

Staff of the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) have been accused by Nigerians of stealing properties ordered or sent to them from abroad.

In a series of comments on X on Tuesday, Nigerians decried the spate of missing properties sent to them from outside the country.

According to Maleek Oyibo, in a statement on X on Tuesday, he mentioned that a gold wristwatch sent to him by a client was stolen at the Area 1 Abuja NIPOST Office.

Oyibo said, “If your mother works at NIPOST AREA 1, just know she’s a thief.

“A client sent back gold jewellery from the US using NIPOST. It arrived in Abuja, and no one called. After about 2 weeks, we went to NIPOST Area 1. This woman denied receiving our package and asked us to go to NIPOST Area 10. Area 10 couldn’t find it, and they sent us back to the woman.”

He added that, “After much back and forth, a director from the headquarters had to give us a note to hand to the woman.

“Immediately after she read the note, she opened her drawer and gave us the package; it had been in her drawer all this time. Thieves, most staff at NIPOST are thieves.”

Reacting on the ordeal, a X user simply identified as Omotaigga, said, “There was a time when those who wanted to send shoes that’d pass through the talons of NIPOST’ separate the pairs and send them separately, like a 1-month interval. That is, send different colours and designs of only the left leg today, then wait 25 or 30 days before sending those of the right legs.”

Describing it as “crazy,” Jemimah Adebiyi, in her reaction, said, “I was really at the post office today, and they said they couldn’t find my package. The worst part is that it’s supposed to have been there since May 7th. This is so bad. I’m always praying I never get my packages from NIPOST.”

While Oladele Enamahoro noted that NIPOST “is the standard definition of criminality,” Tariq Abdulazeez said, “I once ordered clothes from Alibaba. Track id shows it has arrived Nigeria Kaduna NIPOST, one week after, no calls, no clothes. I put forward a complaint to Alibaba Baba for refund. Nigeria’s citizens are worse than their politicians.”

Another social media user identified as Dracoluniz accused the service of opening his package and stealing candy and chocolate.

“A package was delivered to NIPOST Ibadan. It arrived, and I didn’t get a call or anything for three weeks. After another few weeks of back and forth, I got the package, but they opened the package and took a pack of candy and chocolate and shared amongst themselves,” he alleged.

“I ordered a wrist watch from Ali Express to be delivered to me in Nigeria via the post office. The package arrived in Nigeria and reached its destination, according to the tracker. But the post office keeps telling me the package has yet to arrive. That was how they made me forfeit it because I’m tired,” Abbatee said.

Zaynab Iliyasu Bobi also accused the service of delaying her package for over two months.

Bobi said, “I’m still waiting for the arrival of my packages for two months now! They keep telling me that the packages haven’t arrived in Nigeria yet, even after telling them the USPS tracking number showed the packages were already in Nigeria. These packages were supposed to be here since April.”
