One of the soldiers stationed at the popular phone market, Banex Plaza, in the Wuse 2 neighbourhood of the Federal Capital Territory, has put a woman in a coma.
Banex Plaza has been closed for the fourth day after a free-for-all confrontation between traders and soldiers on Saturday.
Our source learned that the woman who fell into a coma on Tuesday was walking down the closed route when she was stopped by troops.
The troops approached the lady who had over a barricade in the plaza.
However, after asking her a few questions, one of the soldiers hit her hard, and she collapsed. She was instantly hustled into a van that raced away from the scene.
It is unclear whether she was being brought to the hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, traders have been counting their losses from the military operation, which they claim might have been avoided without the lockdown.
Trouble began at Banex when a seller allegedly sold a defective phone to someone who invited soldiers. Although police intervened to resolve the conflict, the military later stormed the square, ordering traders to close immediately.
Some social media footage saw soldiers chasing a mob and assaulting a few individuals.
The army has remained silent about the activity at the plaza since Onyema Nwachukwu has not issued an official statement as of the time of this story.
