Mr. Uche Orukwo, a member of the Diobu Vigilante Group (DVG), was assassinated by cultists at Obidanso Waterfront, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area in Rivers State.
The incident, which occurred Saturday night, has sparked alarm in the area, with authorities urging for calm.
It was said that the victim was part of a team of security personnel that rushed the waterfront in search of cultists terrorising the region.
The security force, acting on intelligence, attacked the waterfront around 9 p.m. on Saturday, where suspected cultists were ready to attack a rival group in an ongoing dominance fight.
It was learned that when the assailants saw the security personnel, they opened fire and killed the vigilante member, Orukwo.
Meanwhile, Grace Iringe Koko, the Public Relations Officer for the State Police Command, confirmed Orukwo’s death and stated that an investigation was underway to catch the offenders.
