Kaduna Islamic cleric, Sheikh Gumi, disclosed he had a “productive interaction” with the security agencies on how to curb banditry across the country following his invitation by the Federal Government over his comments on the activities of bandits.

Chronicle NG reports that the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, disclosed on Monday while addressing the State House journalists, that the government deemed it fit to invite the cleric for questioning, adding that he (Gumi) was not above the law.

Gumi had in recent times offered to negotiate with bandits over the abduction of about 287 schoolchildren (137, as claimed by the Kaduna State Government) from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement on his X handle on Tuesday, Gumi assured his followers that there was no cause for alarm, adding that there was no animosity in the course of the meeting and calling for unity and synergy to achieve everlasting peace.

“Last night, I got many frantic calls from well-wishers and journalists about a news item about which I was interviewed by security. There is no cause for alarm. Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to curb banditry, as we are all trying each in his sphere to tackle the monster bedeviling the nation.

“There was no animosity but courtesy and full respect. We all need, as a nation, to unite and work in synergy to achieve everlasting peace. Thank you for your concern. May Allah continue to protect us from all evil. Amin,” the statement read.
