Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, has announced a 24-hour curfew in the state’s Mangu Local Government Area, effective immediately. This followed the deterioration of the area’s security.

Mutfwang made the decision following consultations with relevant security authorities. He stated that only those fulfilling vital responsibilities are permitted to move within the local government jurisdiction until further notice.

He asked all individuals, particularly inhabitants of the Mangu Local Government Area, to follow the directive and aid security personnel in restoring peace and order in the area by providing trustworthy information.

He bemoaned that certain people are still trying to create an atmosphere of insecurity in the state, despite the government’s efforts to put an end to terrorist actions.

Mutfwang extended his condolences to the relatives of the victims and injured, assuring them that the government will not give up in its efforts to ensure long-term stability in the state. He pledged to revisit the curfew whenever the security situation improved.

Mangu has been the subject of terrorist attacks in recent times.

Chronicle NG reports that attacks have continued unabated in the local government area despite a 24-hour curfew initially imposed by the Interim Management Committee Chairman, Mr. Markus Artu.

The most recent being the killings in Farinkasa-Kerana and Sabon-Gari, where several lives and properties were lost.

The attackers, allegedly Fulani militias, raided Farinkasa-Kerana and Sabon-Gari on Saturday night, murdering at least 12 people, injuring several more, and torching homes.

Concerned about the development, the governor decided, in collaboration with the State Security Council, to reimpose the curfew on the local government, presumably to supplement the prior one imposed on the council by the Interim Management Committee Chairman.
