Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was not arraigned as scheduled on Thursday in the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
Chronicle NG reports that the Federal Government applied to drop the “illegal possession of firearms” case it filed against the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
In an oral application, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Abubakar, told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that the application followed the result of further investigations.
At the court today, Emefiele was present, but the arraignment could not proceed because Saadat Yaro, the second defendant, was unavoidably absent.
According to counsel for the Federal Government and Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Mohammed Abubakar, who spoke to Justice Hamza Muazu, Yaro was reported unwell in the morning.
Abubakar submitted a request for a fresh arraignment date after expressing regret to the court.
Counsel to Emefiele, Akinlolu Kehinde, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), did not object to the request for an adjournment.
Justice Muazu then set the arraignment for August 23.
