Outgoing All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu was doomed from the day he name former Senate President Ahmad Lawan the consensus presidential candidate of APC for the 2023 general elections, Senator Shehu Sani said.

Chronicle NG reports that Lawan contested the APC presidential primaries alongside Bola Tinubu, who emerged as the party’s candidate and winner of the presidential election.

Days before the APC presidential primaries on June 8, Adamu announced Lawan as the consensus candidate of the party, noting that, his announcement was backed by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s consent.

Buhari later denied that he was backing Lawan or any other candidate, stating that the best candidate should emerge winner of the primaries.

Reacting to the former APC national chairman’s resignation on July 17, “From the moment he announced Lawan as the ruling party’s consensus candidate and was left stranded by Buhari, to the moment he was kept in the dark on the approved list of principal officers of the National Assembly, I knew that Adamu will thread the path of Adams.”

According to credible sources, Adamu, who was elected as the party’s national chairman at the party’s national convention in March 2022, has sent his resignation letter to the Presidential Villa in Abuja ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s return from the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya.

Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa State, sent the resignation letter to the Chief of Staff of the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, around 4 pm on Sunday.
