To avoid imprisonment, the Idiroko Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned motorists not to use fading number plates.

Mr. Akinwunmi Olaluwoye, the FRSC’s Idiroko Unit Commander, told reporters on Monday in Ota, Ogun, that some criminals utilised fading number plates to conduct crimes, thus the caution.

“As a result, we are warning those who enjoy using faded number plates to stop doing so in order to avoid being apprehended by the FRSC,” he stated.

According to the unit commander, the command has begun detaining people deemed wanting in response to an order from the headquarters in Abuja.

He said that people caught by the FRSC, particularly motorbike riders, were compelled to purchase new licence plates before being freed.

Olaluwoye said that because of its proximity to the border, vehicles on the Idiroko axis preferred to wear foreign number plates, while others preferred fading number plates.

Olaluwoye asked motorists to follow traffic laws and regulations in order to prevent road accidents and maintain sanity on roadways.
