Following days of power struggles and violent skirmishes with the army, Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces agreed on Wednesday to a 24-hour ceasefire beginning at 6 p.m. (1600 GMT).
The RSF also said in a statement, “We reaffirm our entire commitment to a complete ceasefire, and we hope the opposing side will abide by the treaty according to the specified time.
Whether the army will declare its own adherence to the treaty was not immediately evident.
On Tuesday, the adversaries agreed to a 24-hour peace, but a media reporter in Khartoum reported hearing tanks fire after the peace was scheduled to start.
