Busola Tejumola, MultiChoice’s Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels said on Tuesday that the eighth season of Nigerian Idol will begin on April 23 and continue through July 16.

Tejumola said at a media conference in Lagos that the show’s live performances will begin on May 28.

She said that the winner of this year’s version of the programme will get N35 million in cash, with the entire grand prize of N100 million, including gift items, to be revealed later.

“This time, we are bringing back our judges: Obi Asika, Simi, and D’Banj, as well as Ikponmwosa Osakioduwa as the show’s host.”

“We decided to keep them because they did a great job during the seventh edition, bringing their unique personalities to the show, and it turned out to be the best so far.”

“Africa Magic Showcase, Urban, and Family” will telecast “The 8th Nigerian Idol.” Every Sunday at 7 p.m., it will also run on an additional channel, channel 199.

“This edition promises to reveal an additional set of great talents among Nigerian youths,” she stated.

Tejumola said that the number of submissions received for the eighth edition of the event increased by 10%.

She thanked the show’s headlining sponsors, Tecno and Bigi, as well as tactical sponsors Waw, Close-up, Tom-Tom, and many more.

She admired the sponsors’ desire to give their fair share to the expansion of the entertainment sector.

“Over the years, Nigerian Idol has provided our audience with premium entertainment, the contestants with healthy competition in their performances that drive the winner to emerge.”

“Nigerian Idol will continue to provide a platform for talented artists to show the continent what they can do, as well as the opportunity to rise to fame through hard work and dedication.”

“It is the ideal environment for young talents to gain access to mentorship through the judges and coaches who will expose them to the intricacies of the industry.”

“We invite everyone to come along with us on this journey of self-discovery,” she added.

Biola Aransiola, assistant brand manager at Bigi, commented on his company’s participation, saying, “We are happy to be here; it is a big platform to help talents grow in Nigeria.”

“We want to be that partner who works with them to achieve greatness.”

“We are here bigger and better; we like giving back to the community, and we are coming as a headline sponsor this time because we want people to see the hidden talent in individual Nigerians,” stated Mr Thompson Ani, Tecno Marketing Manager.

“We’re going to be bigger this year.”

So brace yourselves for something major.”
