The Republic of Ireland deported 35 Nigerians, including five children, to Nigeria on a chartered aeroplane departing from Dublin Airport on Wednesday night.
According to the Irish Mirror, the returns, which included 21 men, nine women, and five children, arrived in Nigeria on Thursday.
Jim O’Callaghan, the Irish Minister for Justice, said he was “happy to say” that all of them had returned to Nigeria despite an unexpected stoppage owing to a medical event on board.
While the Irish government did not provide a specific cause for the deportation of Nigerian nationals, O’Callaghan simply stated, “”Ireland has a rules-based immigration system. It is important that those rules are robust and enforced.”
However, the Nigerian Diaspora Commission stated that it was unaware of the expulsion of Nigerians by Ireland on Thursday.
The NiDCOM spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, has confirmed the deportation of the Nigerians by the Irish government.
