The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded over 3.4 million new voters in the ongoing second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise nationwide.

According to the commission’s week 13 update, given on Wednesday in Abuja, a total of 3,441,121 registrations were processed as of April 3, including both online pre-registrations and physical walk-ins.

According to INEC, 2,068,384 citizens registered online, while 1,372,737 registered in person at designated centers around the country.

According to state data, Jigawa had the most registrations with 201,047, accounting for 5.84% of the total.

Lagos came in second with 181,095, while Kano finished third with 177,681 registrations.

Youth participation remained dominating, with residents aged 18 to 34 accounting for 2,354,768 registrations, or 68.43% of the total.

Gender distribution revealed a greater turnout among women, with females accounting for 1,922,143 registrants (55.86%) vs. 1,518,978 males (44.14%).

According to occupational breakdown, students constituted the largest group of new voters (1,235,931, or 35.92%).

This was followed by company owners at 701,912 (20.40%) and farmers and fishermen at 615,967 (18.28%).

INEC also announced that 48,330 people with disabilities registered during this time

INEC mentioned that the figure remains provisional, explaining that it is “a preliminary figure pending data clean-up during the period for citizens’ claims and objections, followed by the deployment of the Automated Biometric Identification System.”

It further noted that voter registration in the Federal Capital Territory remained halted in accordance with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, following the area council election on February 21.

INEC advised eligible Nigerians who have yet to register to do so through its official portals before the deadline.
