    The new Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kolo Kyari is not related to Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to the President, a source told chronicle.ng

    Mr. Kyari succeeds Maikanti Baru who was removed on Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari.

    A source in the NNPC told Chronicle.ng that the two are not related contrary to claims on social media that Mele is Abba’s brother.

    Here are 10 things you must know about Mele Kyari

    1. Mr. Kyari is the 19th Group Managing Director of NNPC.
    2. In the last 27 years he had traversed the entire value chain of the Petroleum Industry, with exceptional records of performance.
    3. He attended Government Community Secondary School Biu in Borno State between 1977 to 1982.
    4. He graduated from University of Maiduguri in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Geology.
    5. He was born on the 8th of January 1965 in Maiduguri, Borno State.
    6. He is a quintessential crude oil marketer with prerequisite certification and outfield pedigree in Petroleum Economics and crude oil and gas trading.
    7. He once represented Nigeria at the OPEC before his appointment as NNPC GMD.
    8. Under his watch, Crude Oil Marketing Division recorded noticeable transformation in the management and sales of the various Nigeria’s crude oil grades via an infusion of transparency and automation of the processes.
    9. In 2007, he won the GMD Prize for the Overall Best Performance for NNPC Management Development Program.
    10. He has also won GED CS Award for best Performance in Leadership.
