The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, has ordered the deployment of police personnel to places of worship and other public locations across the FCT ahead of the Yuletide celebrations.

In a statement on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said 2,202 police officers have been deployed across the territory in line with the 2025 festive season operational order to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.

According to her, police personnel have been stationed at places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, motor parks, and other public spaces. She added that the deployment is supported by increased visibility policing and intelligence-led patrols.

“As we gradually transition into 2026, the FCT Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to sustaining peace, safety, and public order across the Territory.

“In furtherance of this mandate, the command has deployed 2,202 personnel across the FCT in line with the 2025 festive season operational order. This proactive deployment is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure, and hitch-free celebration for all residents and visitors,” the statement said.

Adeh noted that identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties that could be exploited by criminal elements are being closely monitored and, where necessary, raided to prevent criminal activities.

She added that tactical units, rapid response squads, and patrol teams have been mobilised, with intensified vehicular and foot patrols across the FCT. The command is also working closely with sister security agencies to ensure coordinated security coverage throughout the festive period.

Adeh further disclosed that Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have been deployed to conduct routine sweeps at places of worship and other public gathering points, in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police.

She said CP Dantawaye urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines.
