YouTube is set to launch an AI-powered editing tool that will allow creators to edit videos using natural-language instructions.
The video-sharing platform announced the new feature on Wednesday during its ‘Made on YouTube’ event.
The conversational editing tool will allow creators to use a chat interface to refine both long-form videos and YouTube Shorts.
How YouTube’s AI editing tool works
During a demonstration, YouTuber Happy Kelli provided footage of herself dancing in different outfits and asked the AI to select the best take for each outfit, then add music and transitions.
“A one-hour shoot can be 10 hours or more in the edit. So, what if we could speed that process along without sacrificing any of our creative control?” Kelli said.
The tool can also add text overlays, remove pauses in speech and make editing suggestions based on the context of a creator’s conversation with the AI.
Creators will still be able to return to the editing timeline and manually adjust the AI-generated output for greater control.
“If at any point I want even more control, I can jump back into the editing timeline and manually adjust things myself,” Kelli said.
“Overall, conversational editing turns the process of editing into a literal conversation with an infinitely patient helper. It’s a collaborative partner that edits with you, not for you.”
YouTube said the conversational editing tool will be available for YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app in early 2027.
