A Katsina State High Court has sentenced Hauwa’u Mukhtar, a female arms courier, to death by hanging after finding her guilty of conspiracy to commit, aid and abet terrorism.

The judgment was delivered by Justice A. B. Bawale following proceedings at the Katsina High Court in northern Nigeria.

According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, Mukhtar was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at Jibia motor park in Katsina State while allegedly attempting to transport ammunition.

She was said to have been caught conveying 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition intended for a suspected bandit leader identified as Ado, reportedly operating in Dunburum forest in Zamfara State.

The DSS later arraigned her on a two-count charge bordering on terrorism-related offences before the court.

During the trial, the prosecution presented witness testimonies and exhibits, while both sides filed final addresses. The court ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Justice Bawale subsequently sentenced Mukhtar to death by hanging in line with provisions of the Katsina State Penal Code Law, 2021.

The case adds to a series of terrorism-related prosecutions across Nigeria, as authorities intensify efforts against armed groups and their logistics networks.

In a related development, a Federal High Court in Abuja recently convicted four individuals over their involvement in the June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, underscoring ongoing legal actions in terrorism cases nationwide.
