Lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly have declared that the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was necessary to restore the sanctity and integrity of the legislative body.

Addressing journalists at the Assembly Complex, the lawmakers unanimously agreed that the leadership change was long overdue.

“The members of parliament today decided to change the leadership of the House, and you know that the constitution made it clear that the House has the power to regulate its proceedings,” they said.

“So the members of the House felt that they have had enough of Obasa, and today we have unanimously agreed that Meranda should become the new Speaker of the House.” they continued.

Describing the decision as inevitable, they added, “It’s just a change of baton. It is only death that is constant, so change is inevitable.

The lawmakers also announced sweeping changes to the House’s structure. “As we speak, all the principal officers have been dissolved, and standing committees also stand dissolved,” they disclosed.

Reaffirming their commitment to legislative progress, they concluded, “The House, as you have seen, has resolved to work together and ensure we move the parliament to the next level. We hold our constituents and Lagos State a duty of ensuring that the sanctity and integrity of the House is restored, and that is why we all unanimously agreed to carry out this action to save our image and this state.”
