Mohammed Ibrahim, a 40-year-old vulcanizer, was jailed in an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Thursday for reportedly getting a stolen bicycle from a juvenile.
Ibrahim, who lives in Chukuku Hamlet Kuje, FCT, was accused of getting stolen goods by the authorities.
S.K. Iyakwo, the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that Mr Sunday John of Old Kutunku Gwagwalada Abuja reported the incident to the police station on April 2.
According to Iyakwo, on March 10, a juvenile, 16, took the complainant’s N35,000 bicycle and sold it to the defendant for N6,000.
He stated that the stolen bicycle was retrieved from the suspect during the course of the police probe.
According to the prosecution, the crime violated Section 316 of the Penal Code.
The suspect, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to the allegation.
In a formal bail application, Defence Counsel Mr Ayam Micheal asked the judge to award his client release in the most generous conditions possible.
Michael relied on Sections 158, 161, and 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) to support his bond allegations.
The offender was granted parole in the sum of N50,000 with one security in the same amount by the Judge, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkarim.
He directed that the guarantor lives within the court’s authority and postponed the matter until May 3 for a hearing.
