The PGA Tour has announced that American golfer Matt Gogel has received a six-month suspension for wagering on golf events.
The 55-year-old participates in the PGA Tour Champions series, which is designated for professional golfers aged 50 and above.
Gogel refrained from betting on events he was involved in, but he acknowledged unintentionally breaching PGA Tour rules by making “minor recreational bets” in 2024 and 2025.
“I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf,” Gogel said in a statement.
“I made an honest mistake, and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions.”
In 2026, he achieved two top-10 finishes in 18 PGA Tour Champions tournaments and most recently participated in the Rogers Charity Classic in Calgary, Alberta, where he tied for 30th place last week.
Gogel, who has accumulated over $760,000 (£559,000) in prize funds from Champions tournaments, clinched the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in 2002—his sole triumph in 179 appearances on the PGA Tour.
His suspension came into effect on 23 August and continues until 22 February.
