The Delta State Police Command reported that two people were killed after a confrontation between Okada riders and the state task force on Sunday night.

It stated that the commotion in Delta State’s capital, Asaba, on Monday was caused by the altercation.

Bright Edafe, the state police public relations officer, announced this on his X account on Monday.

According to Edafe, motorbike riders were protesting the tragic altercation by destroying property and assaulting people, leading the police to send personnel to manage the scene.

He wrote, “There was a violent protest this morning by Okada riders who had an issue last night with the state task force that led to the death of two persons.

“They mobilised in their numbers this morning, destroying property and beating people. Hence, our men were deployed to control the situation before it turned into something else.”

Videos circulating on social media revealed a state of chaos reported to be happening at Okpanam Road axis, Midwifery, in Asaba.

One of the videos depicted a situation in which police officers fired firearms, while another showed a group of people blocking the route with motorcycles.
