Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel wants greater consistency from his team and has urged his players to repeat their opening 4-0 league victory at Werder Bremen when they play Augsburg on Sunday after an erratic start to the season.
The Bavarians began the domestic season with a 3-0 German Super Cup loss at home to RB Leipzig. This came after the Bavarians won their 11th straight league title after Borussia Dortmund faltered on the penultimate matchday.
Tuchel wants more of the same after they backed it up with a convincing league victory against Werder on Friday.
Tuchel stated this week of their rocky start, “We have to accept criticism and keep working on the things that we had the impression were already further ahead.”
“We want to have fewer ups and downs during the game and in between games.”
After the team’s defeat to Leipzig, he was significantly more critical of his players, stating they lacked the signs of four weeks of rigorous preseason training.
We hope, in a positive sense, to bring in stability and lessen that amplitude, added Tuchel. “Those two matches were an illustration of how radically different we can play between Saturday and Friday.
The addition of Harry Kane, who made his Bundesliga debut against Werder by scoring one goal and assisting on another, has raised Bayern’s expectations for a possible Champions League-winning attack this year.
Tuchel claims that Joshua Kimmich, a German international, cannot play that position because he wants the freedom to be more involved in the game, and that Tuchel instead wants to buy a defensive-minded midfielder.
