US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, saying its “whole civilisation will die tonight” unless its leadership makes a dramatic concession.
In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump gave Tehran a deadline of Tuesday 8pm ET (1am WAT) to strike what he described as a “revolutionary” deal.
The US leader is demanding that Iran fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping, warning of severe consequences if it fails to comply.
“A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” Trump wrote.
He suggested that a leadership shift in Iran could still produce a positive outcome, adding that the moment could mark a turning point in global history.
Tensions have escalated rapidly. On Monday, Trump threatened to target Iran’s critical infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, if the ultimatum is ignored.
Reports from Iranian state media indicate that multiple strikes have already hit transport infrastructure across the country. In Kashan, at least two people were killed and three others injured, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency.
Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) warned civilians to avoid railways for 12 hours, citing security risks.
The US has also reportedly struck Kharg Island, a critical facility responsible for the bulk of Iran’s oil exports.
Despite the growing pressure, Iranian authorities have rejected calls for a ceasefire, insisting instead on a permanent end to the conflict.
With the deadline looming, the situation remains volatile, raising fears of wider regional escalation and global economic disruption.
