US President Donald Trump has labelled people who continue to use the term “artificial intelligence” rather than his preferred phrase, “super intelligence”, as “THE ENEMY”, without specifying the consequences.
Trump made the statement on Thursday in a post on his Truth Social platform, escalating his push to replace the widely used term with his preferred alternative.
“The White House considers anyone that uses the term, ‘Artificial Intelligence,’ as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, ‘Super Intelligence,’ THE ENEMY!” Trump wrote.
Trump Pushes ‘Super Intelligence’ Terminology
Trump first proposed the name change during his address to the United Nations General Assembly last month, arguing that “super intelligence” sounded much better.
In late September, he signed an executive order directing the use of the term “super intelligence” across the US government.
The requirement does not extend to private companies, although some businesses have reportedly begun adopting the terminology, including Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta.
Trump ally Elon Musk has also used the phrase in posts on his social media platform, X.
Political Debate Over Artificial Intelligence
The dispute over terminology comes amid growing concerns about AI security and public anger over the expansion of data centres across the United States.
Trump has consistently defended the development and use of artificial intelligence. His preferred terminology presents the technology in a more positive light, although the debate over its name does not resolve concerns about its risks, safety or wider impact.
The move also fits Trump’s broader pattern of renaming places and introducing alternative names.
He has promoted the name “Gulf of America” for the Gulf of Mexico and referred to Lake Ontario as “Lake America”.
