Troops in the early hours of Friday repelled an attempted infiltration by Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists into three communities near Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Capt. Muhammad Goni, acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, stated in a statement that the communities affected were Muna Garage, Shuwari Village, and the Ajilari Cross area.
Ajilari Cross is located in the southern section of Maiduguri metropolis, approximately 6-8 kilometers from the city center.
Muna Garage is located on the western outskirts of Maiduguri, along the route to Dikwa/Gamboru. It is located around 8-10 kilometers from the city center and is one of the largest motor parks in the area.
Shuwari Village is located on the western outskirts of Maiduguri, near Muna Garage. It is around 9-12 kilometers from the city center and located just outside of the major built-up region.
The release said, “Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, have successfully thwarted multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by ISWAP terrorists across Borno State in the early hours of 10 July 2026.”
According to Goni, between 12:20 and 2:30 a.m., the terrorists attempted to gain entrance to the city by infiltrating Muna Garage, Shuwari Village, and the Ajilari Cross axis.
“With early warning mechanisms emplaced, troops swiftly detected the advancing terrorists and engaged them from multiple axes with accurate firepower, decisively frustrating all attempts to infiltrate,” Goni added.
In two incidents, he stated troops also successfully thwarted additional infiltration attempts by the terrorists at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai.
“During the pursuit of the fleeing terrorists at Miringa, a mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicle triggered an improvised explosive device, with no casualties recorded among troops. The situation remains stable,” Goni said.
Overwhelmed by the army’s quick tactical maneuver, he said that the terrorists were forced to abandon their purpose and withdraw in chaos in all directions.
“Troops are currently conducting clearance and exploitation operations to pursue the fleeing terrorists, consolidate operational gains, dominate the area, and prevent any further threat to nearby communities,” he added.
According to a statement made by Goni on Thursday, six suspected Islamic ISWAP terrorists were killed, as was a soldier, after a failed attack on a military installation in Borno State.
On Tuesday, the rebels attempted to run over the Forward Operating Base Logomani in the Ngala Local Government Area but were met with stiff opposition from OPHK forces, forcing their surviving comrades to leave.
