Troops of Operation Enduring Peace in Plateau State have killed five kidnappers and rescued a woman who had been abducted in the state.
During a raid on a criminal hideaway in Angwan Boka in the Sopp District of the Riyom Local Government Area on Tuesday evening, the operation was carried out.
The operation was confirmed to newsmen in Jos on Wednesday by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the Joint Military Task Force spokesman.
“Yes, it’s true. Our men neutralized five kidnappers and rescued a woman who was abducted earlier.”
He clarified that two individuals who were apprehended on February 16 and were later identified as members of a local kidnapping syndicate gave reliable intelligence that led to the raid.
“Troops mobilized to the hideout and rescued Hauwa Suleiman, who was earlier abducted by the criminal elements,” he added.
He also emphasized the importance of community support in fighting crime, saying, “We urge the people to continue to give us information. Information will help us.
“Even though we will do our best, with credible and actionable information, we will be able to know where the criminal elements are and be able to deal with them so that there will be peace.”
He said, “Our men have maintained an aggressive posture to decisively deal with criminals. We will do our best to ensure there is peace in all parts of Plateau. That is the mandate of the Commander—to ensure there is peace; that people go back to their farms and do their businesses without problem.”
John Mairiga and other Riyom community members attested to the raid and the confiscated items, which included three cell phones, ₦17,600 in cash, and what appeared to be illegal drugs.
“The woman, Hauwa Suleiman, who was rescued by the troops during the operation, was found unharmed and has been reunited with her family,” Mairiga added.
