Tottenham relieved the strain on manager Thomas Frank with a solid victory over his former team Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Bees’ trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium bore all the signs of a potential upset for Spurs and Frank as he works to prove his credentials to fans.

In contrast, facing a team that idolized Frank, Spurs elevated their morale with a well-earned victory after their midweek tie at Newcastle.

Xavi Simons, the summer acquisition, invigorated Frank’s team by assisting Richarlison with an easy opening goal and then executing a solo run from deep in his own half before netting his maiden goal for Spurs with a composed shot.

Spurs faced little serious pressure in the second half as they secured a victory that was essential for Frank and his team.

Frank has faced challenges in gaining the support of Spurs fans who have doubted his strategies and whether he possesses a strong enough character to help them climb back up the rankings.

Dissatisfaction has emerged on two occasions recently—following the cautious tactical strategy in the 4-1 derby loss to Arsenal and when they were beaten 2-1 at home by Fulham.

Spurs demonstrated their fighting spirit by equalizing twice to secure a point at Newcastle, and this marked further progress as they managed to achieve a home victory.

Prior to this victory, Spurs had contested 16 home league matches in 2025, securing just three wins and suffering 10 defeats. Frank needs to alter that trend.

This marked just Spurs’ second home league victory this season—the first was during the opening weekend against Burnley—and there was plenty to motivate Frank.

To enhance the pleasure, Simons ultimately demonstrated why Spurs were ready to invest £52m to acquire him from RB Leipzig, orchestrating the efforts of an attacking trio consisting of Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison, and Randal Kolo Muani.

The Spurs haven’t had many days to relish being at home this year—this was one of those instances.

Thomas Frank’s side faces Slavia Prague in an important Champions League game at home on Tuesday, 9 December (kick-off 20:00 GMT).
