President Bola Tinubu has launched a major agricultural initiative with the unveiling of 2,000 tractors under the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme, aimed at transforming Nigeria’s farming sector and ensuring national food security.

The commissioning ceremony took place on Monday at the National Agricultural Seeds Council in Sheda, along the Abuja–Lokoja Expressway.

Addressing stakeholders at the event, Tinubu said the deployment of the tractors marks a new phase in Nigeria’s agricultural development and food production drive.

“We are very proud of what we are doing. We made a promise when we came in. We are fulfilling that promise. Two years ago, I sounded the alarm on our nation’s food security crisis. I demanded immediate and innovative solutions. That, again, is answered today—this is the first phase of it,” he stated.

The President noted that the mechanisation programme is a strategic intervention to empower local farmers, modernise farming practices, and stimulate rural development across the country.

“This government recognises that agricultural productivity is synonymous with national stability and food sovereignty. The ability to nourish our population forms the bedrock of a prosperous nation. Our ambition extends beyond mere self-sufficiency,” Tinubu declared.

He further highlighted the administration’s vision of turning Nigeria into a global agricultural powerhouse.

“We envision Nigeria as a global agricultural powerhouse—supplying quality produce to international markets while ensuring every citizen can access affordable, nutritious food.

“That’s why we took a bold decision to establish this new agricultural mechanisation programme. We are just beginning,” he added.

The unveiling of the tractors marks a significant step in the federal government’s broader effort to address hunger, boost agricultural productivity, and create sustainable livelihoods for millions of Nigerians.
