President Bola Tinubu has announced the renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.
The president stated on Friday that the move was in recognition of the late military officer’s services to Nigeria’s transition to civilian administration.
Tinubu announced the decision as part of his Democracy Day address, stating that the name was part of the acknowledgment for the builders of Nigeria’s democratic journey.
“Among the architects of modern democratic Nigeria, we honor General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua for his vision of national partnership.
“In recognition of his contributions, the federal government has approved the revitalization and renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology,” he said.
The president also declared national awards for more than 30 democracy heroes and soldier-democrats of the June 12 battle, including posthumous recognitions for Dr. Arthur Nwankwo and Ben Charles-Obi, with the full honors list to be released in the coming days.
