President Bola Tinubu met with Romuald Wadagni, the newly inaugurated President of the Republic of Benin, on Monday in Lagos.
According to a brief statement by the State House correspondents, Tinubu met with the Béninoise leader at his Ikoyi mansion.
The visit is Wadagni’s first bilateral meeting with his Nigerian counterpart since entering office one week ago.
Wadagni was received on arrival by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and escorted to the President’s house, where he met with Tinubu for about 30 minutes behind closed doors.
The particulars of the discussions were not immediately made public.
Wadagni’s visit comes just days after he was inaugurated on May 24, 2026, as President Patrice Talon’s successor after winning the April 12 presidential election.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu at the inauguration event.
Benin Republic, which shares a border with Nigeria in the west, is one of the country’s closest neighbors and an important participant in ECOWAS regional cooperation, commerce, and security arrangements in the Gulf of Guinea.
Tinubu is the immediate past chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, which he served from July 2023 to 2024.
