President Bola Tinubu will travel to Jos, Plateau State, on Saturday to pay his final respects at the funeral of Nana Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe, mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe.

In a statement on Friday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed Tinubu’s visit, noting that he will depart Lagos early on Saturday and return the same day.

According to Onanuga, the President will attend the funeral prayers for Mama Lydia, who passed away at 83, before meeting Church leaders across the North at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) headquarters in Jos.

Tinubu earlier expressed his condolences to Professor Yilwatda, describing his late mother as “a woman of virtue who lived a life of faith, service, and community.”

He urged the APC Chairman to take solace in her legacy, praying for the repose of her soul and for strength for the bereaved family.

Professor Yilwatda, who became APC National Chairman in July, has received a stream of tributes from political leaders and colleagues since his mother’s passing.

Tinubu’s visit also comes months after he condemned the wave of violence in Plateau State, calling for unity and decisive leadership to end recurring attacks.

In April, the President decried a deadly assault in Bassa Local Government Area that claimed over 50 lives, urging Nigerians to rise above religious and ethnic divides.

“Love and unity must rise above religious and ethnic divisions,” Tinubu said at the time, calling on leaders to promote peace and reconciliation across Plateau communities.
