President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Ghana President-elect John Dramani Mahama on his victory in the December 7 general election in Ghana, following his opponent’s concession speech.

This was revealed in a statement on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information Strategy.

In a phone discussion with Mahama, Tinubu expressed hope that Mahama’s reelection will bring more stability to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), of which he is chairman.

Tinubu praised Ghanaians for their dedication to democracy, as seen by the peaceful and successful presidential and legislative elections.

He praised Ghanaians for once again demonstrating to the world that democracy is the best way to achieve political stability, economic progress, social justice, and transparent governance in Africa.

He emphasised that Nigeria’s and the region’s conviction in the ideals of free choice of leaders will continue to be a source of pride.

The Nigerian leader praised the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for admitting defeat before the Electoral Commission’s formal declaration.

Tinubu stated that Bawumia’s attitude strengthened Ghana’s democratic character. President Tinubu stated that President-elect Mahama’s return to Jubilee House, after serving as president from 2012 to 2017, symbolises the Ghanaian people’s faith in his leadership and vision to take the country to new heights.

Mahama was Ghana’s President from 2012 to 2017, a Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2009, and held deputy and ministerial positions between 1998 and 2001.

Tinubu reiterates his unwavering support for strengthening the familial relations between Nigeria and Ghana, which are based on shared history, cultural linkages, mutual support and cooperation, Pan-African ideals, democracy, the rule of law, and economic integration.

The Nigerian leader expresses gratitude to President Nana Akufo-Addo for his outstanding leadership and numerous contributions to Ghana’s prosperity and regional peace and stability.

The President looks forward to working with Mahama’s incoming administration to expand bilateral ties in a variety of industries and create a brighter future for West Africa.
