Terrorists kidnap passengers on busy Kwara highway

The Federal Government secured 150 convictions of terrorists in the first two days of its recent terrorism trials, Lateef Fagbemi announced.

Terrorists in the early hours of Monday attacked the busy Isanlu–Isin–Omu Aran road in Kwara State, kidnapping at least four travelers.

This occurred on the same day when suspected terrorists attacked a Nigeria Police Border Patrol Team position in New Kalli village in Borgu, Niger State.

This comes as people of Agwara and Borgu LGAs in Niger state fled their ancestral homes following a deadly terrorist attack on the towns on Saturday, amid rumors of another upcoming attack planned by criminals.

Meanwhile, Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has denounced the killing of over 40 people in Niger State and urged the Federal Government to put an end to what he characterized as the rising normalization of mass killings across the country.

Chronicle NG gathered that the Kwara highway attack occurred when armed men ambushed motorists along the highway, a key route linking communities in Kwara South to the state capital, Ilorin.

A source familiar with the incident said the attackers operated freely on the road, forcing vehicles to stop before whisking passengers to an unknown location.

“Bandits are still heavily present in the area and are actively targeting travelers heading towards Ilorin,” the source said.

Recall that on November 18, 2025, gunmen attacked a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch at Eruku during its midweek service, killing three worshippers and abducting 38 members, including the pastor, and throwing the congregation into panic and chaos.

At the time of filing this report, there had been no official statement from the Kwara State Police Command confirming the attack or detailing efforts to rescue the abducted victims.
