Terrorists have abducted retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defense Information, along with his wife in Katsina State.
It was gathered that the incident happened along the Katsina–Matazu road when the former senior military officer was traveling with his wife on Saturday.
Their vehicle was apparently stopped by terrorists in the Matazu Local Government Area, and they were transported to an unknown place.
According to sources, the driver who was transporting them was shot but survived the incident.
During his tenure as military spokesperson, Major General Abubakar (rtd.) was instrumental in the Nigerian Armed Forces’ defensive communication.
The kidnapping has added to mounting concerns about insecurity in the North-West area, particularly in Katsina, where incidences of abduction and armed attacks have continued to rise, affecting both residents and visitors.
The new incident illustrates Nigeria’s continued security issues, despite ongoing military operations against armed criminal organizations.
At the time of filing this report, efforts to get the military authorities to comment on the tragic development proved futile.
