Gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa terrorists have killed two officials of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in the Gendene community, under the Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The officers were attacked at their checkpoint by the terrorists around 3am on Wednesday.
A neighbor, Bello Shata, who spoke with our correspondent about the tragedy, said a three-star officer among the casualties was burned alive when the terrorists set fire to the location where he was resting.
Mustapha Mubarak, the Kebbi State Command’s public relations officer, neither confirmed nor denied the occurrence when asked but did say, “We will issue a statement once we get the full report.”
Chronicle NG gathered that the terrorists also burnt the officers’ operation vehicle and shot at two residents of the village, a female and a male, who are receiving treatment at an undisclosed health facility in the area.
Chronicle NG reported that the Lakurawa terrorists, in the early hours of Thursday, 5th May, 2026, attacked a police checkpoint at Bakinruwa/Maje in the Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing two police officers on duty.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen raided the Bakinruwa/Maje checkpoint, overpowered the police personnel, and set fire to their tent.
A resident of the region, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for security concerns, claimed the attack happened in the early morning while the cops were on routine duty.
“The gunmen came in large numbers and attacked the checkpoint. The policemen tried to resist them, but they were overpowered. After killing the officers, they set the tent at the checkpoint on fire before leaving the area,” the source said.
SP Bashir Usman, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the event to press on Friday, saying two police officers were killed during the attack.
He said, “Yes, there was an attack at the Bakinruwa/Maje checkpoint in Bagudo Local Government Area.
“They killed two of our officers and burnt down the checkpoint, but the police are on top of the situation. I will issue further details.”
