The Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that Supreme Court judgment on Ondo state have got no bearing on its status.

The caretaker committee also said it will not join issues those commenting on the possible impact a similar judgment might have on the party.

Some senior members of the ruling party and President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration have commented on how the ruling party narrowly escaped losing out on the Ondo state governorship after the apex court voted 4-3 in favour of Rotimi Akeredolu, the APC candidate.

Honourable Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN), Senator Babafemi Ojudu, the Special Adviser to the President on political matters and Senator Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs are some of those who have commented on the matter.

“The clarification is against the backdrop of personal opinions being expressed by some individuals on the status of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC ) and its capacity to conduct the Congresses,” Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, APC national secretary caretaker committee said in a statement.

The CECPC added that, “While it is not our intention to join issues with these commentators, the Supreme Court’s Wednesday judgement affirming the election victory of the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu SAN had no bearing on the CECPC’s status and its membership.

The caretaker committee also insisted that the congresses scheduled to hold on July 31 will go ahead.

“Party members and aspirants should therefore come out en masse and peacefully to participate in the ward congresses, come Saturday”.
