The Super Falcons will defend their continental title at the WAFCON next year, after defeating the Amazons of Benin 3-1 on aggregate on Tuesday.
The 10-time African champions won the first leg of this eliminator 2-0 in Lome, Togo, but were defeated to a 1-1 draw in the second leg in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Tuesday.
In the MKO Abiola Stadium, Ashleigh Plumptre scored her first Super Falcons goal.
In the 12th minute, she went past Benin’s defense and headed home a beautiful Esther Okoronkwo pass.
However, Benin pulled level in the 80th minute, just as skipper Rasheedat Ajibade missed a good chance.
It was a hard-fought stalemate, with Benin fielding as many as ten international players who were unafraid of the host team’s pedigree and gave everything they had.
