Tottenham Hotspur have completed the high-profile signing of Netherlands international Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €60 million.

The 22-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract at Spurs, with an option to extend for a further two years.

Speaking after his move, Simons expressed his excitement, “I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going. I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s a great club and when I met the head coach I knew straight away that this was the right place for me.

“I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline. I want to do everything I can to win, for the team and also for the fans.”

Tottenham had faced competition in their pursuit of the midfielder. Earlier in the summer, they missed out on Eberechi Eze, who joined Arsenal, while Morgan Gibbs-White committed his future to Nottingham Forest. Chelsea also explored the possibility of signing Simons but never submitted an official bid, instead prioritising their move for Aleandro Garnacho from Manchester United.

The opening left Spurs to seal the deal, adding Simons to a list of new arrivals that already includes Mohammed Kudus, Joao Palhinha, and Kota Takai.

Manager Thomas Frank praised the acquisition, saying, “I’m really pleased we have brought Xavi in – he is a great addition to the squad.
He is still young; however, he already has good experience and, over the past few years, has played a lot of games at the top level.
Xavi has proven his ability to get goals and assists, both from the number 10 position and left-wing. He also has a great eye for his teammates in terms of unlocking defences, and I know he will come in and be part of a good team that is already working hard together.”

Simons, a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, previously featured for Paris Saint-Germain and PSV Eindhoven before joining Leipzig. During his time in Germany, he registered 22 goals and 24 assists in 78 appearances, while also scoring five times in 28 matches for the Netherlands.
