President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Falcons over their victory against Morocco in the finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Tinubu, in a statement on his official X handle on Saturday, praised the undaunted spirit of the Super Falcons, who staged an incredible second-half comeback to defeat Morocco 3–2 in a pulsating match.

Morocco started the match with dominance, opening the scoring in the 12th minute through Ghizlane Chebbak.

The Atlas Lionesses extended their lead when Sanaâ Mssoudy struck again in the 24th minute.

Undeterred, the Super Falcons emerged from halftime with renewed intensity. Esther Okoronkwo pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 64th minute. Seven minutes later, Folashade Florence Ijamilusi found the net to bring the scoreline level.

The decisive moment came in the 88th minute, when Jennifer Echegini completed the dramatic turnaround, scoring the winning goal that sealed the Falcons’ triumph.

Nigeria edged Morocco statistically, registering 14 shots—five of them on target—against Morocco’s 10.

The Falcons maintained 55% ball possession, completed 280 passes at a 69% accuracy rate, and earned five corner kicks compared to Morocco’s three.

Speaking on the victory of the Nigerian team, Tinubu, in a statement on X, said, “They chose to accept this mission.

“They understood the assignment. Our superior Super Falcons delivered in true Nigerian fashion. Never say never.

“They went, they saw. They conquered again.

“10-time champions of Africa. Mission X complete.”

The president had earlier ordered the full bonuses and allowances of the Super Falcons to be paid to the players.

He also sent a high-power Nigerian delegation to Morocco to cheer the Super Falcons to victory.
