Neymar scored his first goal in 16 months, converting a penalty to help Santos secure a 3-1 victory over Agua Santa in the Paulista Championship on Sunday.
The Brazilian star, who last found the net in October 2023 for Al Hilal, has been recovering from a serious knee injury that limited him to just seven appearances since joining the Saudi club.
“I’m happy to be playing again. I feel like I’m improving,” the former Barcelona forward said. “It’s only my fourth game back, but I’m getting better. I was anxious to score and wanted to dedicate this goal to the fans and my family.”
After Neymar’s opener in the 14th minute, Thaciano doubled Santos’ lead before Guilherme sealed the win in the 70th minute with an assist from Neymar.
Neymar, who began his professional career with Santos in 2009, has returned to his boyhood club on a short-term deal set to run until June. “Santos has helped me rediscover my love for football,” he added
“I didn’t want a long contract because I wasn’t sure how my comeback would go, but I’m enjoying every moment.” he said
Santos will next face Noroeste in the Paulista Championship on Wednesday.
