Nigeria’s track queen Tobi Amusan put on a stunning performance on Friday at the 2025 Paris Diamond League, finishing second in the women’s 100m hurdles in a season-best time of 12.24 seconds.

The time is the second-fastest ever, trailing only her world record of 12.12 seconds, established in 2022.

Amusan stormed over the last metres, closing quickly on Grace Stark of the United States, who had exploded out of the blocks with intent and held on to win with a personal best and meeting record time of 12.21 seconds—making her the fifth-fastest woman ever over the 100m hurdles.

Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent finished third in 12.30 seconds.

This effort is the latest in a continuous and stunning resurgence for the Nigerian star in the 2025 season.

Amusan’s campaign began quietly, with a fourth-place finish in Xiamen (12.74s) and another fourth in Shaoxing (12.66s).

However, she responded decisively with a season-best and meet record 12.45s to win her first Diamond League title of the year in Rabat last month.

Paris was her fourth Diamond League appearance of the season, as she continues to improve her form and consistency ahead of major competitions.

The 2022 world champion faced an excellent field in Paris, including world medallist Kendra Harrison, emerging Jamaican star Nugent, Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, Dutch champion Nadine Visser, the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton and current Diamond League leader Stark.

Despite the depth of competition, Amusan’s upward trajectory in form and top-level experience led her to challenge for maximum points as the race to qualify for the Diamond League finals in Zurich heated up.

Her regular results presently place her fourth in the Diamond League standings with 10 points, trailing only Stark (23), Danielle Williams (15), and Marione Fourie (12) in the overall rankings.
