The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, on Tuesday decorated the new Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Shettima decorated Egbetokun in place of President Bola Tinubu, who had earlier left for Paris, France, to attend the Financial Pact Summit.

His decoration at the presidential villa was a brief ceremony witnessed by top government officials.

These include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, who also serves as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum; and the outgoing IG,Baba Usman.

President Tinubu on Monday night appointed Egbetokun as the acting Inspector General of Police, pending the confirmation of the Senate.

Egbetokun, the new Acting IGP, replaced Baba Usman, who was appointed as the Inspector General by the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, in 2021.

Tinubu approved the retirement of Baba Usman, along with all the service chiefs of the country.

Until his latest appointment, Egbetokun was the Deputy Inspector-General of Police and supervising DIG for the South-West geo-political zone to man the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja, since April 6, 2023.

The new Police IG was born on September 4, 1964, in Erinja, Yewa South local government area of Ogun State.

He enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

Egbetokun had his initial cadet training at the Nigeria Police Academy and has attended many other courses within and outside the Police Force.

He has worked in several Police Commands and formations across the country and held command positions at various times.
