    Sesan Adelabu, popularly known as Emirate, an Akure-based socialite and filling station owner, allegedly committed suicide after killing his wife, Bolu, in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

    The socialite was believed to have committed suicide by ingesting an insect-killing chemical after killing his wife in their Alagbaka house.

    It was reported that the wife’s lifeless body was left on her matrimonial bed, while Adelabu,’s remains were discovered inside his toilet after swallowing the insecticide.

    A source close to the late Adelabu, who confirmed the occurrence to our reporter, stated that the couple had not been on good terms recently.

    “I can’t confirm what led to this, but I know the two of them had not been on good terms recently. It’s a sad one for us tonight, especially the members of his club,” he said.

    According to accounts, Adelabu owns a number of businesses, including petrol stations in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

    However, the couple’s bodies have been deposited at the Akure General Hospital mortuary.

    When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the development and stated that the socialite murdered the wife before committing suicide by drinking poison.

    She further stated that the state police commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, has directed the homicide branch of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.

    According to the police spokesperson, “On the 9th of February, 2024, a distress call was received by the police of A’ Division Akure by men of the Special Protection Unit.

    “The officer attached to the deceased in his house in the Alagbaka area of Akure received a call from the deceased child around 6 p.m. asking after his father because he was not picking up his calls.

    “The policeman, while trying to inform his principal, discovered him face down and lifeless in the toilet while his wife’s body was found on the bed with multiple cuts suspected to be machete cuts on her head and face.

    “An empty container of sniper was also found at the scene. An investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident, and the scene has been cordoned off to enable police to do the needful.”
