Police in Kogi State declared Senator Dino Melaye (APC – Kogi West) wanted

Senator Dino Melaye whose residence has been besieged by heavily armed mobile policemen is talking to security agents in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital according to his tweets.

Melaye who was declared wanted by the police said yesterday that his policemen attached to him have been withdrawn. “One CP came and took them away. There is also a plan to set me up again. But in God I trust. Truth will always prevail,” he tweeted.

Today he said he would be visiting the police. “I will make myself available to the police today. My resolve to speak the truth and defend the poor masses of NIGERIA is Total. We shall overcome!!!”

“A man without arm, no security yet you mobilise 150 policemen to invite him. And those who committed treason are free. We shall not be intimidated or cowed. Struggle continue.”

According reports, Melaye has now been moved to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Headquarters, Guzape, Abuja.

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) had on Monday confirmed the arrest of Melaye at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday morning.

Spokesman of the Service, Mr Sunday James, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Melaye was arrested by Immigration officials “based on instruction”.

The confirmation came hours after the senator, who represents Kogi West, announced the arrest on his Twitter handle at 7:32 a.m.

“I have just been arrested at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on my way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the Federal Government after checking in,” he tweeted.

The police recently declared Melaye wanted after he was accused of supplying arms to some murder suspects, who allegedly implicated him.

Melaye denies the allegations, which he describes as politically motivated.

The senator was later freed at the airport but was trailed to his Maitama residence by the police.

The police have yet to confirm Melaye’s arrest.
