Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has called for an experienced leader to take over the Defence Ministry following the departure of Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru.
Chronicle NG reports that Badaru had resigned, which was verified by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement issued Monday.
Badaru’s resignation letter stated that he was leaving office due to bad health.
President Bola Tinubu has accepted the resignation and thanked the former minister for his contributions to the nation.
Badaru, a former two-term governor of Jigawa State, was named Defense Minister on August 21, 2023.
Sani responded with a post on Tuesday via his verified X handle, stating that the Defence Ministry requires an experienced leader due to the country’s escalating instability.
The former legislator claimed that the country should be able to protect itself from robbers and Boko Haram terrorists.
He wrote, “Whether the Defence minister resigned or was removed, the Defence Ministry needs an experienced hand to lead in view of the exigencies of today.
“Nigeria historically fought in the First and Second World Wars and contributed forces for the restoration of peace in DRC Congo, Tanzania, Lebanon, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Sudan, etc. The nation should be able to defend itself against these criminal bandits and terrorists.”
